Pickaskool is a free, independent project run by an individual in Singapore (see About). This page explains what it keeps about you, and why. In short: you can use almost all of it without an account, most of what you enter stays in your own browser, and nothing is sold or used for advertising. Last updated 3 October 2026.
Kept only in your browser
These are saved on your device (in the browser's local storage) so they're there on your next visit. They are not sent to or stored on our servers, except where noted:
- Your child's stage (P1, secondary, after secondary), to show the right home page.
- A saved home address or location, if you choose to save one, to fill in distances and routes.
- Your six secondary school choices, with the PSLE score and posting group you entered. If you're signed in, these are also kept with your account (below).
- Pathfinder's exam results and the courses you pick. If you're signed in, the courses you pick (not the results) are also kept with your account.
Clearing your browser's site data for pickaskool.com removes them.
If you create an account
An account is optional. It keeps your lists across devices and lets you use Ask Pickaskool. We keep:
- Your email address, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google.
- Your sign-in sessions, each with the IP address and browser type it started from, so you stay signed in (for up to 30 days) and so misuse can be spotted.
- Your six school choices with the score, posting group and affiliation you entered, and your JAE course choices.
- A record of each Ask Pickaskool question you ask: when, and what it cost to answer. Not the question itself (see below).
Addresses and locations you look up
When you enter a postal code or address, or use your location, it's sent to our server and to OneMap (Singapore Land Authority) to find the location, nearby schools and routes. We don't save it to our database or link it to you or your account. Lookup results are cached on the server for a few weeks, without anything identifying who asked, so repeat lookups are quick. Location is only read when you press “Use my location” and allow it.
Ask Pickaskool
Your question is sent to our AI service provider, whose model writes the answer from MOE's pages. We send the question and the MOE text, never your name or email. Under the provider's commercial terms, questions sent this way aren't used to train its models. Questions and answers are kept for up to 180 days, without any link to who asked, so the same question can be answered again without cost. If you tick “Use my saved schools”, the schools on your six-choice list and the score you entered also go with the question (still without your name or email), and that answer isn't cached. Please don't include personal details (names, NRIC numbers, addresses) in questions.
Keeping the site safe
- To stop abuse, we briefly count requests per IP address (for 10 minutes) and sign-in emails per address (for an hour).
- The sign-in page uses Cloudflare Turnstile, a bot check that may read technical details of your browser.
- Like any website, our hosting providers keep short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses and pages requested).
- Cookies are used only to keep you signed in, and by Cloudflare for security. There are no advertising or analytics cookies, and no tracking across other sites.
- We count visits with Umami, which we run on our own server (no outside analytics company). It uses no cookies. It records the page visited (without anything you typed into it, such as a postal code or score), the site you came from, your browser, device type and approximate location (country and city), and which features are used (for example, “a Near me search within 2 km”). Your IP address is used to work out that location and an anonymous visitor code that changes regularly; it isn't stored. If your browser sends “Do Not Track”, you aren't counted.
- When something breaks on our server, we keep a short note of the error for up to 90 days, with any postal codes, emails and long numbers removed.
Who else handles it
We don't sell or share your data. These services process it for us, only to run the site:
- DigitalOcean: hosting and the database.
- Cloudflare: delivers the site, protects it from attacks, and runs the sign-in bot check.
- Resend: sends sign-in emails.
- Google: only if you choose “Continue with Google”.
- An AI service provider: answers Ask Pickaskool questions (and writes the “In short” school summaries from MOE data).
- OneMap (Singapore Land Authority): address search, maps and routes.
Some of these may process data outside Singapore. We use established providers that protect it to a standard comparable to Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). We'd disclose data to authorities only where the law requires it.
How long it's kept
- Your account and saved lists: until you delete your account. Deleting it removes them straight away.
- Sign-in sessions: until they expire (30 days unused) or you sign out. Sign-in links: 15 minutes.
- Records of Ask questions: 13 months, so costs can be tracked. They aren't linked to you once your account is deleted.
- Request counts used against abuse: up to an hour.
Your choices and rights
Under the PDPA you can:
- Delete your account and everything linked to it, any time, from your account page.
- Ask what personal data we hold about you and how it has been used, and ask us to correct it.
- Withdraw your consent, which means deleting your account; the rest of the site keeps working without one.
Email [email protected] for any of these, or with a question or complaint. We'll reply within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can contact the Personal Data Protection Commission.
Security
Connections are encrypted, sign-in uses one-time email links (there are no passwords to steal), and the database is reachable only by the site. No system is perfectly secure: if a breach affecting your data ever happens, we will tell you and the PDPC as the law requires.
Young people
The site is made for parents, and for students planning their next school. If you're under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before creating an account.
Changes
If this policy changes, this page will show the new date. Significant changes affecting account holders will be announced on the site. See also the terms of use.
